We cannot miss the opportunity to visit the first Renaissance cathedral in Spain — a masterpiece of the Catholic Monarchs (Isabella and Ferdinand), conceived to symbolize the triumph of Christianity after the conquest in 1492.
The Royal Chapel, built in the Isabelline Gothic style at the request of Queen Isabella of Castile, was chosen as the burial place of the most important monarchs in Spanish history. It is dedicated to the Saints John the Evangelist and John the Baptist. Here, several institutions that mark the beginning of modernity were born.
The Alcaicería, located opposite the Cathedral, was once the old Arab silk market. It was the most important market in Nasrid Granada, made up of inns where merchants stayed and sold their goods. Today, it is filled with numerous shops offering traditional Granada handicrafts.
The Corral del Carbón is the only Nasrid alhóndiga (grain warehouse and inn) preserved in its entirety on the Iberian Peninsula. Since the 16th century, it was adapted by Christians for theatrical performances in the style of a Corral de Comedias (open-air theater).
