Horseback route designed for intermediate to advanced riders who can handle the three horse gaits: walk, trot and canter. REQUIRED LEVEL.
Located in the southeast of Spain, the Tabernas Desert is considered the only true desert in Europe, with over 3,000 hours of sunshine per year and less than 250 mm of annual rainfall.
Covering an area of 120 km², it brings together the landscapes of many arid deserts across the world, making it an ideal natural backdrop for filming feature films, series, music videos, commercials and documentaries. Nicknamed the European Hollywood, its scenery has hosted Clint Eastwood, Harrison Ford, Claudia Cardinale, Alain Delon and, more recently, Christian Bale, Ariadna Gil, Joaquin Phoenix and Jean Dujardin in films such as Exodus, The Hostile Zone, The Sisters Brothers and Zorro, among many others.
The Tabernas Desert extends over five municipalities, including Santa Cruz, Alboloduy, Gérgal, Gádor and Tabernas, the latter giving the area its name when it was declared a protected site in 1989 due to its geological and natural value.
The itinerary proposed by Malcaminos for this one-day excursion includes crossing part of the Tabernas Desert, with a visit and lunch in one of the western film towns still in use today for shootings and as tourist attractions.

Programme:
DAY 1: Arrival at the ranch, accommodation at the Ranch Inn.
DAY 2: Breakfast, horse presentation and departure for the route. Full-day ride. Return to the ranch and end of services.
Accommodation: Accommodation is at the “Posada del Rancho”. It features 6 rooms, fully equipped kitchen, two shared bathrooms/showers and a shared terrace overlooking the Tabernas Desert.
Recommendations:
- Wear flat-soled shoes and comfortable clothing, sunscreen, cap or similar, or your own riding gear.
- Bring light warm clothing (a sweatshirt or similar, easy to put on and take off).
Requirements:
- Proven experience in the three gaits is required. Designed for intermediate/advanced and experienced riders. It is essential to feel comfortable at walk, trot and canter. No refunds will be issued if the rider cannot complete the route due to lack of experience in long rides, which require technical skill and good fitness.
- Maximum weight: 90 kg.
- You may bring your own horse. In this case, stabling (box or paddock) with water and forage is included.
- Two possible routes. The choice depends on the circumstances and environmental conditions on the day of the ride.
For safety reasons, this service is NOT suitable for:
- Children under 14, except with confirmed level and signed authorisation.
- Adults over 70.
- Pregnant women (the company accepts no liability if pregnancy is not visible).
- People with back problems.
- People in wheelchairs or with mobility issues.
- People with animal allergies.
- People with hearing or visual disabilities.
- People with low fitness levels.
- People weighing more than 90 kg.
Pets: Not allowed during the activity for safety reasons.
The company may occasionally take photos or videos of the activity for social media, website or promotional use. If you do not wish to appear in these materials, please inform the guide.

Important:
A minimum of 3 people is required for the activity to take place.
If you are a solo rider or a group of fewer than 3, we will offer an alternative or a full refund.

Not including
Personal rider insurance: The company’s insurance includes mandatory helmet use. If the rider brings their own horse and/or refuses mandatory protection, they must sign a liability waiver certifying they have their own insurance covering any accident to the rider and their horse(s). A copy of the insurance must be presented, stating that horseback riding is covered.
Cancellation Policy
A 100% refund will be issued:
- If the company cancels the activity due to lack of participants.
- If the company cancels due to force majeure (adverse weather conditions or other uncontrollable circumstances).
An 80% refund will be issued (20% retained as management fees): if the customer cancels for any reason up to 7 days before the start of the activity.
A 50% refund will be issued if the customer cancels for any reason from 7 days to 24 hours before the start of the activity.
No refund will be issued if the customer cancels less than 24 hours before the start of the activity or does not show up.
